  2. Thank you for taking the time to write to me personally on this matter which I now consider closed.
  3. I have taken the decision to no longer post on this forum. Firstly I would like to thank all those many members who have helped and advised me over the years without which I would have never achieved so much in such a short time. The degree of assistance was such that I regard them as friends though I have never met many of them. Secondly I would like to point out my reason for leaving was the recent attitude and comments of a Moderator who had not even the courtesy to reply to my last Post. Thirdly I want to pay a complement to Stephen and all his team at IRM for the recent introduction of what is going to be a fantastic range of detailed rolling stock and wish them well in the future. 5. Fran I felt the need to point out to you that I was not been flippant as you had stated, “That's a disappointing attitude to take Kieran. I'm surprised at you tbh. It was a simple query”, the clear inference I was not taking the question seriously. You also state “Others” pointed the same but “Others” have also contacted me privately criticising the way you in addressing this matter. For you to start your answer, “Erm, well if you felt the need to point out that you were not being flippant” is condescending in the extreme. You go on to say, “I'm happy to see that it was a simple misunderstanding”, are you now accepting that I did not portray “a disappointing attitude” in the contents of my post? I would have hoped that in this type of situation a Moderator would have contacted the Poster privately and queried the content and resolving the matter rather than coming to a decision and publically stating it.
  6. Peter asked “where I might pick up flux paste for soldering" not what type of soldering to use. As he does not give any location where he is based my only thought was the internet was his best option, by putting flux paste into any search engine he would have got loads of options. I was not been flippant in my answer only trying to help a fellow modeller which has always being my approach. I don't understand what you mean by "a disappointing attitude" and ask you please to withdraw your remarks.
  7. The internet, the world is your oyster.
  8. What you have a kit but can't find it.... you must have some collection. Anyway the book gives 3 drawings but no measurements, 101 @ 1888, 184 & 186 as they are today. New Irish Lines have been doing a series of give away drawings of GSR and include J15A & J15B with measurements.
  9. Ran some very old stock today. Some MkII coaches with MIR brass etched sides, showing their age. Some Lima coaches converted into NIR Enterprise stock. Finally ran some Shale Wagons with 078 providing the power.
  10. Can't wait to see the finished layout.
  11. Brick work tedious as you say but worth it.

    850 Nearly there!

Just found this blog after reading your article in NIL. Excellent job Mike sorry I missed this build
  13. Building a brass 6 wheel coach I discovered Bill Bedford (Mousa Models) did kits for BCDR 6 wheel coaches. I got three kits but decided to complete one first rather than build the 3 together. This is what you get. No instructions, absolutely no instructions! I started on the chassis and as you can see in the picture below the wheels are held in with hi-hat bearings which fit into the bearing holders. They in turn fit onto to a piece of brass wire (supplied) which run into two points as marked by the black arrows on the picture. The middle axle required modifications to the wheel set. The wheels were removed from their 2mm axle and replaced by a piece of 2mm brass tubing. The tubing was cut to just cover the wheel bosses. A 1 mm pin point axle was obtained and was inserted in the tube. The 1 mm axle in a 2mm bearing allows sufficient movement in the middle axle so as not to derail on curves, at least that is the theory. I hope I have explained it clearly enough as it took me a long time to get my head around it. (Apologies about the quality of the above 3 pictures). ‘E’s’ I had no idea what these were for but Richard McLaughlin at the North Down Show not only explained their purpose but also put one in place for me. As you can see in the picture below how the ‘E’s’ cleverly hold the top and bottom half of the coach exactly in place. Next was a start on completing the chassis. The sides to be applied and you have to laminate 3 separate pieces to make the buffer beams. Running boards had to be constructed. Even the brakes had to be laminated. I’m glad I decided to build one first as it takes two or three times as long to figure out what goes where than soldering it in place. It's going to be a slow build.
  14. O scale shows of the detail, he's a talented builder.
  15. Leslie has done the larger GNR Furniture Container and he is in the process of commissioning a CIE one for his 4 wheel flat wagons. Is this the B type Container you were thinking off, if so they are commercially available but look bigger than the one in your picture on post #13
  16. Was the D17 (Inchicore Class) not the GSWR/GSR Class 52?
  17. A class video Noel, well done.
  18. New Irish Lines gave away drawings of GSR locomotive with their magazine but I don't see any D14's in them.
  19. I asked Allen in 2014 if he would make a WT kit to fit a 4P chassis and he asked for drawing and scans of the chassis which were supplied but never materialised. Other had provided drawing before me and they did not get anywhere. I should say in fairness he did etches of Railcars for me but it took over a year with constant pressure to get him started but once he did they where done quickly. Maybe you could be successful this time.
  20. Looks the part Robbie, I would do a light mist of grey to underline the original colour, a slivery grey, that has rusted to finish them off.
  21. Eoin it just gets better and better.
  22. Congratulations on building such a lovely model and your carriage is almost there so you will make your deadline. I'm sure you enjoyed doing the water pipes on the roof, there is so much detail there. As you say a little bit of weathering will take the edge of the locomotives finish. Excellent job all round.
